Brief DescriptionAssorted models of buyers, traders, musicians at a Javanese marketplace. Made from a resinous and self-coloured material (not painted). 209 figures are included. The model is complete with fruit, food-stuffs, eating utensils and musical instruments and also includes models of Europeans in 19th century dress. Was displayed by Alexander Thomson in his own museum at Banchory-Devenick along with the procession figures (ABDUA: 9496). Thomson's MS Catalogue (1862): 'Staircase, in centre on Table, Model of Market Place of Sourabaja, Island of Java - with several hundred figures.'
