Brief Description | Model of a Javanese ceremonial procession, perhaps a wedding, created in the nineteenth century There are 101 figures in the procession, led by two figures wearing grotesque masks. Main characters are a mounted horseman and female being carried in a litter, the rest are musicians with instruments, people carrying food and shoes, and a detachment of 11 armed men. The figures are made from a self-coloured (i.e. not painted) resinous material. Probably displayed by Alexander Thomson in his own museum at Banchory-Devenick along with the market-place figures (ABDUA: 9572). |
Object History Note | These objects were displayed in the first exhibition ('100 Curiosities') at King's Museum which opened in April 2011. |
