Caption
"Professor Sir Alexander Ogston held the Chair of Surgery from 1882-1909. Ogston introduced antiseptic surgery to Aberdeen Infirmary, an innovation greeted with 'incredulity and ridicule'. A posed photograph by George Washington Wilson shows Ogston operating with his famous antiseptic carbolic spray to the fore. George Fiddes Watt (1873-1960) was an Aberdeen born portrait painter trained at Gray's School of Art and at the RSA School in Edinburgh. Watt , assisted by the influence of George Reid, became highly successful."
