ActivityIan James Morris Brown (b 1945), playwright, was born in Barnet, England, and was educated at Dollar Academy, University ofEdinburgh and Crewe and Alsager College. He was awarded an MA; DipEd; MLitt; and PhD. From 1967-1969 he worked as a teacher and from1971-1986, as a lecturer in Drama. In 1986-1994 he was Drama Director for the Arts Council and in 1995 became Professor and Head of the Drama Department, Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh; Director, Scottish Centre for Cultural management and Policy, 1996-; Programme Director, alsager Arts Centre, 1980-1986; Chairman, Scottish Society of Playwrights, 1973-1975, 1984-1987, 1997-; and FRSA, 1991. His plays include: Mother Earth, 1970; The Knife, 1973; The Scotch Play, 1991.
