ActivityThe Scottish Painters’ Society was established in 1898 as the Scottish Amalgamated Society of House and Ship Painters. The objectives of the Society were: to establish a fund for the protection of members; to assist members in obtaining a just price for their labour; to regulate relations between workmen and employers, and between workmen; to defend the rights of members; to provide legal asistance; to provide sick, out of work and dispute pay, and funeral allowances. The name was changed to Scottish Painters’ Society in 1908, and later changed to Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators in 1963.
