Brief DescriptionA large glazed figure of a Bactrian Camel with head raised, the two humps inclined in opposite directions, the whole well-modelled and with splashed brown glazed. The fur boldly indicated 32 3/4'. The importance and size of this figure would indicate that it came from a tomb of the magnitude of that of Chancellor Liu. For similar T'ang figures of camels see C. This glazed ceramic figure of a Bactrian camel is around 1000 years old. Animals such as these would have transported precious loads of silk, bronze, jade and many other materials along the desert routes of the Silk Road.
