Brief Description | Woman's necklace or girdle in woven glass seed beads, in pink, white, blue, black and red. The rectangular panel is woven in diagonal strips of the coloured beads, with an accompanying strap/ belt woven in a 'ladder' formation. The strap is attached to the rectangular panel with two conical copper alloy beads on one side, and one on the opposite side. |
Object History Note | Note accompanying donation 'Suitcase containing items given to and collected by Miss Elizabeth McMurtrie MBE (1876 - 1952), awarded the MBE for her work as a nurse (midwife) and missionary with the Kikuya tribe in Kenya in 1920s. The University already holds botanical items donated by Mr McMurtrie (her father)'. |
