Brief Description'The Girl on the Cliff or Nirvana'. Profile portrait of girl with back to viewer, with skirt hitched up, head thrown back and eyes closed. She is wearing a blue skirt, white blouse, red/brownsocks and has long auburn hair. The figure stands on a cliff-top overlooking the sea and low lying white cloud in background. The painting is glazed. The back of the panel has an unfinished work on it. Was exhibited in 1936 in the 'Exhibition of British Art' in the Stedelijk Musuem, Amsterdam when it belonged to Lady Ottoline Maxwell of 10 Gower Street, London WC1. The work is possibly a portrait of her. In 1939 it was exhibited by the British Council Arts Committee in the 'N, Caps '39' exhibition. By then it was owned by Philip Mossell, also of 10 Gower Street, London WC1 (information from labels in back of painting). Glazed.
