Inscription ContentBottom left, on book: J Cassie (1863) On frame: Andrew Moir M,D, Anatomist (1804-44), The Royal College of Surgeons London and Edinburgh recognised his courses (1830). He was greatly admired by his students extra-mural teacher 1828-1839. A resurrectionist, the mob destroyed his school in 1831. Lecturer in Anatomy, King's College 1839-1844. The Aberdeen 'Lancet' April 1831 described him as 'that laborious and excellent anatomist.'

Caption"Moir was an extra mural teacher at King's College 1828-39 and lecturer in Anatomy at King's 1839-44. The Royal College of Surgeons of London and Edinburgh recognised his courses in 1830. In 1831 his 'school' was destroyed by a mob. Cassie (1819-1879) was a largely self taught Aberdeen-based painter elected to the RSA in 1869. Though occasionally a portrait painter Cassie was more frequently a landscape painter. From the 1860's onwards he painted mainly seascapes and coastal views."
