Brief Description | Waterpot in jade, carved in archaic style as a fabulous animal, crouching with a small oval bowl in its mouth, the body somewhat stylised with barbed mane, curly tail and other details. The very pale stone has slight grey markings towards the tail of the animal and at the underside. There is a circular rim at the top of the body that is also included at a feature in the carving. The animal has a split tail that curls up on both sides. When the pot is filled with water, it can get to the small bowl protruding from the mouth through a small hole between the lips. This can only happen when the water in the pot reaches certain level. (maybe used for Calligraphy?) |
