Brief DescriptionSingle moccasin. Native tanned. Heel and vamp seam. The moccasin has been repaired in two places. A small patch on untanned hide has been added on the heel. It has an additional sole hand-stitched on and signs of having been worn. This sole has been attached with ?thread. It appears to have previously had another sole added which has been replaced [traces of stitches remain and there is a difference in the colouration of the hide]. One cuff has been sewn on, the other is not. This may suggest that the maker did not have enough hide. It has a single band of zigzag quillwork covering the heel seam and two unusual sets of extending lines curving out from heel seem. One set curves down to the sole and the other curves upward towards the ankle. These are single quill stitch. There are four lines of zigzag quillwork on each cuff in the same geometric pattern. There is a densely packed row of long metal cones with remnants of red dyed deer hair on both sides. At the top of the cone where it joins the cuff there is a little bit of red dyed quill wrapping. There are two rows of yellow beaded triple bead clusters edging the cuffs. There is a triple row of quillwork on the seam of the vamp. There are larger white beads at the end of the vamp where the puckering joins the central seam.
