Author: Inglis,Jim & Curtis,Neil Date: 1990 Purpose: Encyclopaedia of the North-East
"Bronze razors date from the Middle Bronze Age, about 1100BC onwards. The earlier types are leaf-shaped with a tang, the later types have straighter blades and a pronounced cleft at the tip. They are always found with burials, in one case in association with shaved hairs. This razor is leaf-shaped with two curving blades and a central flat rib, which is very finely engraved on both faces with cross-hatched lozenges. There is a handle or tang. The razor was found in a burial cairn at Tullochvenus, Aberdeenshire, with an urn and cremated human bone remains. It is a complete and well-preserved example and its association with an urn dates it to the Middle Bronze Age. Although the bones are burned, the razor was not, so was put into the grave after the cremation."
