Person NameGlasgow University '88 Medical Club; 1894-1947
ActivityGlasgow University '88 Medical Club was established for those who graduated in medicine at Glasgow University in 1888, or had studied there during the proceeding four year period. Its first meeting was a Dinner held at the Windsor Hotel Glasgow, 1894 and the minutes for the first organisational meeting were dated May 1894. The Club met triannually thereafter for a reunion dinner for members and their guests, who had also to be medical men. Meetings of the Committee met beforehand to organise the events. In 1924 it was suggested that help should be given to any member who became a victim of poverty and misfortune. The last dinner was held in 1928, although the committee met in 1930 and 1931, when it was decided not to hold any more dinners. The two surviving committee members met in 1947 and dissolved the club. At that time there were 20 surviving; 167 deceased; and 5 untraced.
