ActivityEdward Lisle Strutt, a grandson of the 1st Lord Belper, was born in 1874. He was educated at Windsor, Innsbruck, and Christ Church College, Oxford. He joined the Royals Scots and served in South Africa during the Boer War and in Europe during the First World War. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and the Croix de Guerre and was mentioned in dispatches four times, amongst other awards. He became High Commissioner in Danzig in 1920, and was second in command of the Mount Everest expedition of 1922. He was made CBE, and died in Edinburgh in 1948.
