ActivityWilliam Lindsay Renwick was born in Glasgow in 1889. He graduated MA from Glasgow University in 1910, and went on to study in Toulouse, the Sorbonne, and Merton College, Oxford, whence he graduated B.Litt in 1920. From 1914 to 1919 he served with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He lectured at Glasgow and then at Newcastle University (then part of Durham University) from 1921 to 1945, and was a visiting professor in China from 1943 to 1944. He was awarded a D.Litt. from Glasgow in 1926, and Glasgow also awarded him an honorary LLD in 1953. He published work on Edmund Spenser and the Renaissance. In his later years he lived in Arthur Lodge in Edinburgh, and died in 1970.
