ActivityCaroline Margaret, younger daughter of General Sir William Robert Clayton, Bart., was born in 1821. She eloped at an early age with Archibald William Douglas, later 7th. Marquis of Queensberry. They had several children: their second son died in a mountaineering accident on the Matterhorn at the age of eighteen, and their youngest daughter, Florence Caroline, was a prolific writer and somewhat notorious. The 7th Marquis died as the result of a shooting accident in 1858, but his widow survived until 1904. She did not remarry.
