Activity | Archibald Campbell was the son of John Campbell of Clathick, Perthshire, and his wife Agnes, daughter of Laurence Colquhoun of Killermont, Dumbartonshire. He succeeded to the estate of Killermont on the death of his father in 1804 and adopted the additional surname of Colquhoun. He was admitted advocate in Edinburgh in 1768, and appointed Lord Advocate in 1807. In 1808 he was elected MP for Elgin burghs, but in 1810 was instead elected for Dumbartonshire, a seat he held until his death. On the death of Lord Frederick Campbell in 1816 he was appointed Lord Clerk Register. In 1796 he married Mary Ann Erskine, daughter of an Episcopalian minister. He died in 1820. |
