ActivityGeorge Brisbane Douglas was born in Gibraltar in 1856, the second son of Sir George Douglas of Springwood Park and his wife Dona Maria Sanchez de Pina. After the death of his older brother in 1879, he succeeded his father in 1885. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, then took up the post of lecturer in Scottish Literature at Glasgow University in 1911. He published poetry as well as works on poetry and poets, including a life of James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd, published in 1899. He died unmarried in 1935, and the estate passed to his great-nephew.
