ActivityJohn Morrison Caie was born in 1878, a son of the manse in Enzie, Banffshire. He studied at Aberdeen University, where he met his wife, Mary MacLeod, MA. He became County Lecturer with the Irish Department of Agriculture in 1905, then lecturer in Agriculture at Aberdeen and Edinburgh Universities. When the Scottish Department of Agriculture was established in 1912, he joined it, and was President of the Agriculture Section of the British Association in 1937. As well as work on agriculture, he published prose and verse, including two volumes of poetry in Scots and English: ‘The Kindly North’ (1934) and ‘Betwixt Hills and Sea’ (1939). He died in Edinburgh in 1949.
