ActivityThe son of Sir Francis Grant, Lord Cullen, William Grant was born perhaps in 1701 and was admitted advocate in 1722. In 1731 he was appointed Procurator for the Church of Scotland, and wrote some works on patronage in the church. He became Solicitor General in 1737 and Lord Advocate in 1746. The following year he was elected MP for the Elgin burghs, but resigned his seat when appointed Lord of Session in 1754. He assumed the title of Lord Prestongrange. He married Grizell Millar, a daughter of the manse, and they had four daughters: the third married Robert Dundas of Arniston. He died in Bath in 1764.
