ActivityJames Walls Cursiter was born in Orkney in 1825, and was a banker, businessman, antiquarian and archaeologist who worked in London before returning to Orkney to join his family’s general merchant business. He was a keen local historian, and bought many antiquities at the West Brough sale in Sanday after the death of another local historian, Walter Traill Dennison. He died in 1894.
