ActivityColin Campbell was born in 1644 and graduated MA from St. Salvator’s College, St. Andrews, in 1661. He was admitted to the parish of Ardchattan in 1667 but suspended for a few months in 1676 for ante-nuptial fornication. He was received into the communion of the Synod of Argyll in 1694. A mathematician and astronomer, he was a correspondent of and admired by Isaac Newton. His papers are held by Edinburgh University Library. He married twice, both times to Campbells, and had four distinguished sons, one of whom was also a mathematician. He died in 1726.
