Activity | James Maclehose was born in Glasgow in 1857, the son of a publisher and bookseller. After a period at Glasgow University he became a printer. He was an antiquarian and wrote articles on Glasgow University Press, history and archaeology: his son Alexander was a poet. He was a trustee of the National Library of Scotland, as well as a member of the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland. He was awarded an honorary LLD, and died in 1943. |
