ActivityBorn in 1840, Edward Hobart Seymour was educated at Radley and entered the Royal Navy in 1852. He was Commander by 1866, Captain by 1873, Rear Admiral by 1889, Vice Admiral by 1895 and Admiral by 1901. He served in the Black Sea during the Crimean War, and in the China War of 1857 to 1862. Posted to the coast of Africa in 1870, he then captained HMS Iris during the Egyptian War of 1882. He was Naval ADC to Queen Victoria from 1887 to 1889, but returned to China during the Boxer Rebellion and associated uprisings from 1898 to 1901. He died unmarried in 1929.
