Activity | Colin Campbell was born in Cambeltown, Argyllshire, in 1848. He graduated MA from Glasgow University in 1874, with several prestigious prizes in Latin, English Literature and Divinity. After graduating BD in 1877 he was ordained to the parish of St. Mary’s, Partick, in 1878. He officiated for Queen Victoria at Balmoral and Crathie Church from 1883 to 1900, while he served as minister of Dundee parish. From 1916 to 1922 he was a lecturer in Egyptology at Edinburgh University: he was also a Freemason (serving as Grand Chaplain) and an army chaplain. He published several works, some fictional, mostly related to Egyptian history. He died in 1931. |
