ActivityNeil Munro was born in Inveraray in 1864 and initially trained as a lawyer before opting for journalism. Writing became his main focus, and he began to produce books, first novels and short stories of Gaelic romanticism. He wrote historical novels, then turned to more modern subjects, and in the early years of the twentieth century he began his tales of ‘Para Handy’, under the name ‘Hugh Foulis’. He died in Helensburgh in 1908, but the ‘Para Handy’ tales continued to be collected and published after his death, and are still in print today.
