ActivityThe Central Library on Edinburgh’s George IV Bridge was established in the last years of the 19th century as the Carnegie Free Library, set up with a gift of £50,000 from Andrew Carnegie. The building was designed by George Washington Browne. It has departments specialising in local history and music as well as a lending library. The library underwent substantial expansion in the 1960s.
