ActivityRonald Arbuthnott Knox was born in 1888, the son of an Anglican clergyman. He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, and was appointed Fellow and Lecturer at Trinity College, Oxford, in 1910. He became chaplain to the college in 1912, but in 1917 he resigned and became a Roman Catholic. In 1926 he returned to Oxford as Roman Catholic chaplain to the university, a position he held until 1939. He became an honorary Fellow of Trinity College in 1941, and of Balliol in 1953. In 1950 he was made Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He published sermons, theological works, biographical material on Robert Louis Stevenson, and detective fiction, retired to Somerset, and died in 1957. His biography was written by Evelyn Waugh.
