ActivitySpringwood Park (formerly Bridgend), near Kelso, Roxburghshire, was bought by Sir James Douglas, 1st. Bt. (created 1786), then a naval captain, in 1750. The family also held an estate at Longnewton, purchased in 1765. Sir George Henry Scott-Douglas, 4th Bt., succeeded his father as a minor in 1836: he had two sisters, Catherine E.I. Scott-Douglas and Mary S. Scott-Douglas. Their mother was Hannah C. Scott-Ker. Sir George was married to Dona Maria Sanchez de Pina. His eldest son, Lt. James H. Scott-Douglas, was killed while serving in Zululand in 1879, and at Sir George’s death in 1885 the estate passed to the next son, Sir George Brisbane Douglas. He died unmarried in 1935, once again leaving a minor, his five-year-old great-nephew James Louis Fitzroy Scott, as heir.
