ActivityJames Bell Salmond was born in Arbroath in 1891 and was educated at the University of St. Andrews. His career as a journalist was postponed until after the First World War, in which he served with the Black Watch. He was appointed editor of the ‘Scots Magazine’ in 1927, and promoted the work of new Scottish writers in that and later in the ‘Northern Review’, while contributing to the magazine himself under the pseudonym ‘Wayfarer’. He published some of his own poetry, edited that of others, and wrote military histories on General Wade and on the 51st. Highland Division. He died in St. Andrews in 1958.
