Activity | Born in Essex in 1863, John Martin-Harvey was educated at King’s College School, London, with the intention that he should follow his father into the profession of naval architect. However, from an early age he was interested in the stage, and worked for many years with Sir Henry Irving. He married, in 1889, Angelita Helena de Silva Ferro. Turning his talents to management, he managed several London theatres. He was created knight in 1921, and was awarded an honorary LLD and a fellowship of the Royal Society of Literature. He died in 1944. |
