ActivityThe Honourable John Henry Fitzmaurice, second son of Thomas, 1st. Earl of Kerry, inherited the Petty estates on the death of his maternal uncle, Henry Petty, Earl of Shelburne, in 1751. He took on the name of Petty at that time, and was promoted to Earl of Shelburne in 1753. On his death in 1761 he was succeeded by his son William, an army officer and Prime Minister from 1782. He was raised to Marquis of Lansdowne in 1784 and died in 1805.
