ActivityReverend Professor Ernest Wilson Nicholson (b 1938), was born on 26 September 1938, the son of Ernest Tedford Nicholson and Veronica Muriel Nicholson. He was educated at Portadown College, Trinity College, Dublin and the Universities of Glasgow, Oxford and Cambridge. He was Lecturer in Hebrew and Semitic Languages at Trinity College, Dublin, 1962-1967; Lecturer in Divinity, Cambridge University, 1967-1969; Fellow of University College, Cambridge, 1967-1969; Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, 1969-1979; Chaplain of Pembroke College, Cambridge, 1969-1973, and Dean, 1973-1979. He was Oriel Professor of the Intepretation of Holy Scripture and Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford, 1979-1990. In 1992 he was made honourary fellow of University College (now Wolfson College), Cambridge, and has been visiting professor at numerous universities and seminars throughout the world. In 1994 he became Honourary Fellow at St Peter's College, Oxford. In 1990 he was awarded Commander of the Order of Merit (Italian Republic). His publications are voluminous. In 1962 he married Hazel Jackson.
