ActivityReverend Harry C. Whitley (b 1906) was born on 20 March 1906 at Edinburgh, the son of William Edward Whitley and Agnes Haston. He was educated at George Heriot's School and Daniel Stewart's College, Edinburgh, and was awarded MA from the University of Edinburgh in 1930. He studied at PhD at the University of Glasgow from 1930-1933. He was licensed minister of the Church of Scotland by the Presbytery of Glasgow on 31 March 1933. He was inducted at Port Glasgow Newark Church of Scotland in 1935. During the Second World War, he served with Church of Scotland Huts and Canteens in France, 1939-1940 and with R.A.Ch.D. in Western Europe, 1943-1945. On 23 April 1950 Whitley was transferred to the charge of Glasgow Old Partick and on 23 September 1954 to the High Kirk (St. Giles), Edinburgh. He retired on 8 July 1972. On 3 June 1939 he married Elizabeth Young (b 1915). He published 'Blinded Eagle' (London, 1955), 'Pictorial Guide to St Giles' Cathedral' (1959) and 'Laughter in Heaven' (Hutchison, 1962).
