ActivityWilliam Laird McKinlay (1888-1983) was for the most of his working life, a teacher and headmaster in the west of Scotland. From 1913-1918 he was involved in the Canadian National Arctic Expedition, lead by Vilhjalmur Stefansson. McKinlay's account of his experiences, especially those of being shipwrecked and marooned on Wrangel Island, off the coast of Siberia, were published by him in 'Karluk' (London, 1976).
