ActivityThe Scottish Decolonisation Project was established in 1985 under the auspices of the later Professor D.C.M. Platt of Oxford University and the Department of Manuscripts fo the National Library of Scotland with the object of recording the memories and experiences of Scottish men and women who were involved with or who lived through the period of decolonisation in the various parts of the British Empire. The Project was organised by Mrs Susan Sum (formerly Steedman) who also, assisted by William Dorward, carried out the interviewing and recording from 1986-1991. Transcription of the tapes was completed in 1993. Financial support was provided by Nuffield Foundation, the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
