ActivityThe Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners was formed in 1860. The Society represented the interests of its members in relation to pay and working conditions. In 1918 the name was changed to the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters, Cabinetmakers and Joiners on merging with the Amalgamated Union of Cabinetmakers. In 1921 a further merger took place with the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners to form the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers. In 1971 the Society merged with the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers to form the Union of Construction and Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT).
