ActivitySir Alexander Milne (1806-1986), 1st baronet, Admiral of the Fleet, was born on the 10th November 1806. He was the second son of Sir David Milne. In 1917 he entered the Royal Naval College. In 1858 he was made rear-admiral and a civil K.C.B. In 1865 he was promoted to vice-admiral and in 1870, admiral. On 1 November 1876 he was created a baronet. He married Euphemia Cochran (d 1889), daughter of Archibald Cochran of Ashkirk, Roxburghshire, in 1850. He died in Musselburgh on 29 December 1896 and was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son Archibald Berkely Milne, captain in the navy.
