ActivityAlexander Scott (b 1920) was born on 28 November 1920 and was educated at the University of Aberdeen. During the Second World War (1939-1945) he served with the Gordon Highlanders. Following graduation in 1947 he taught at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Since 1976 he has been Reader in Scottish Literature and head of the Department of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow. He was a founding member of the Association for Scottish Literary Studies and has edited numerous literary magazines and anthologies. Much of Scott's work is written in Scots and his first collection 'The Latest in Elegies' was published in 1949.
