ActivityThe Water of Leith Project Group was founded in 1972 at the instigation of Ian McClure, then an architectural student at Edinburgh University, and established with the object of stimulating public interest in, and developing the potential of the valley of the Water of Leith by improving its environment and encouraging its use for recreation and as a focus for ecological study. The Group organised and undertook selected improvements to the valley, including planting and rubbish removal, and pressed for the creation of a Walkway and the establishment of a study based on the river. It was formally dissolved in 1994.
