ActivityHamish Henderson (b 1919), poet, song-writer and collector, and ethnographer, was born on 11 November 1919 in Blairgowrie. He was educated at Dulwich College and Downing College, Cambridge. He served as an intelligence officer with the Highland Division in North Africa during World War II. In 1951 he was appointed research fellow in the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh and has been responsible for the collection of traditions, songs and stories from Scotland's oral culture, especially of travellers.
