ActivityIan MacDougall (b 1933) left school at the age of 15, worked for some years on newspapers and following his National Service graduated in History at Edinburgh University. He worked as a teacher and lecturer for over twenty years, much of that time at Newbattle Abbey College, before moving to work in public relations. He played a leading role in the foundation of the Scottish Labour History Society in 1961 and remained secretary of that group for 35 years. He is presently Secretary and research worker for the Scottish Working People's History Trust. He has published several books including 'Labour Records in Scotland' (Edinburgh, 1978), 'Militant Miners (), Essays in Scottish Labour History (), and a highly acclaimed series of oral history publications including 'Hard Work' (), 'Ye Ken' (), 'Voices from the Spanish Civil War' (), 'Voices from Work and Home' () and many others.
