ActivityAndrew Rutherfurd (1791-1854), Lord Rutherfurd, was born on 13 December 1791. He was educated at the High School and University of Edinburgh. In 1812 he became an advocate and in 1837 was appointed Solicitor-General for Scotland. On 20 April 1839 he succeeded Sir Archibald Murray as Lord Advocate. In 1839 Rutherfurd was also elected to the House of Commons as member for Leith Burghs. He resigned the office of Lord Advocate in 1841 and was reappointed in 1845. He was appointed Privy Councillor in 1851 and died in 1854. He married Sophia Frances (d 1852), youngest daughter of Sir James Stewart, of Fort Stewart, Ramelton, co. Donegal, on 10 April 1822. Andrew Rutherfurd's brother was Major James Hunter Rutherfurd. His nephew was Lord Rutherfurd Clark, judge of court of session, 1875-1896.
