ActivityGarwald estate lay in Dumfriesshire and from 1720-1755, was rented from Robert Elliot by John Moffat. Moffat also rented property for sheep farming from Walter Scott of Crumhaugh, and in 1778 he took the Tack of Hardon. From 1717-1745, Moffat's family continued with livestock farming and his relative, William Moffat (d 1848) and his wife Helen, also grazed sheep on the Fingland estate.
