ActivityThe Very Rev Dr George Fielden MacLeod, 4th Bart and Baron MacLeod of Fuinary, MC BA DD, (1895-1991), was educated at Winchester, Oriel College, Oxford, Edinburgh University and the Union Theological College, New York. MacLeod served as a Captain in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders during the First World War. He was minister of St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, 1926-1930 and of Govan Old Parish, 1930-1938. He was the founder and leader, 1938-1967, of the Iona Community. MacLeod was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, 1957-1958, and Rector of Glasgow University, 1968-1971. He married Lorna Helen Janet MacLeod and they had two sons and a daughter.
