ActivityScottish Gaelic Texts Society, Comunn Litreachas na h-Alba, was founded in Edinburgh in April 1934, largely through the initiative of Professor W J Watson, Then Professor of Celtic in the University of Edinburgh. The aim of the society was 'to provide the publication of texts in the Scottish Gaelic language, accompanied by such introduction, English translations, glossaries and notes as may be deemed desirable.' Since 1934 the Society has published many definitive editions of Gaelic texts, reprinted some works, available previously only in rare editions, and provided school textbook editions of important Gaelic works.
