ActivitySir David Young Cameron (1865-1945), painter and etcher, was born in Glasgow, the son of the Rev Robert Cameron. He married Jean MacLaurin in 1896. He was educated at Glasgow Academy and Edinburgh, and received medals from Antwerp, 1893; Chicago, 1893; Brussels, 1895; Dresden, 1897; Paris, 1900; and Munich, 1905. Cameron received other honours including: RA, 1920; ARA, 1911; RSA, 1918; RWS, RSW, LLD Glasgow University, 1911; LLD Manchester, 1923; LLD Cambridge, 1928; and St Andrews, 1936. In 1924 he was created a knight and in 1933 he was made H M Painter and Limner in Scotland. Cameron's work is represented in many galleries, nationally and internationally, and he was a Trustee of the National Gallery of Scotland. Cameron's publications include: 'The Clyde Set', 1890; 'Paris Etchings', 1904; Etchings to illustrate 'The Compleat Angler',1902.
