Activity | Professor Sir Robert Grieve (b 1910), town planner, was educated at North Kelvinside School and the Royal College of Science and Technology Glasgow, where he was awarded an MA. He worked in local government 1946-1954, was Chief Planner, Scottish Office, 1960-1964, Professor of Town and Regional Planning at Glasgow University, 1964-1974, and the first Chairman of the Highlands and Islands Development Board, 1965-1970. Greive was a member of the Scottish Right of Way Society; New Glasgow Society; Inverness Civic Trust; Stewartry Mountaineering Club; RTPI; Friends of Loch Lomond; and the Scottish Countryside Rangers Association. He was knighted in 1969; awarded a Gold Medal RTPI, 1974; Hon DLitt, Heriot-Watt; Hon LLD, Strathclyde and Hon FRIAS. |
