ActivityArchibald Joseph Cronin, MD MRCP DPH (1896-1981), novelist, was educated at Glasgow University, gaining MB ChB with Hons, 1919, and becoming an MD Hons 1925. He practised medicine in London, 1926-1930, until giving it up to concentrate on writing. His first novel, 'Hatter's Castle (1931), which was well received, was followed by several other successful novels and his first play, 'Jupiter Laughs', was produced in 1940. He was also the creator of 'Doctor Finlay's Casebook' - which became a successful television series.
