ActivityProfessor Donald Cecil Pack, CBE, MA, DSc, FIMA, FEIS, FRSE (b 1920), mathematician, was educated at Wellingborough College and New College, Oxford. He worked for the Ordanance Board, 1941-1943 and the Ministry of Supply, 1943-1946. Pack began lecturing in Mathematics at St Andrews University, 1947-1952 and after a year at Maryland University was Mathematics lecturer at Manchester, 1952-1953. Pack was Professor of Mathematics at the University of Strathclyde, 1953-1982, Honorary Professor, 1982-1986 and was made Emeritus Professor 1986. Pack was also a member of various Government scientific boards and committees, 1952-1984.Professor Pack was Hon President of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and chairman, 1978-1988. He was a member of the European Music Year Committee and chairman of the Scottish sub-committee, 1982-1986, and President of the Milngavie Music Club, 1983-1993.
